This time of the year is one of the most pleasant to be in Phalaborwa.
Although the rains have not come, many of the trees have flowered and
the new leaves are now glistening in the sunlight. There is a vibrancy
in the air as the birds start to sing to proclaim their territories and
attract a mate. People seem to take their cue from what is happening
around them and become more outgoing and cheerful. It is certainly
great to be alive.
Well today winter has certainly arrived. I had noticed that many of the trees were shedding their leaves but somehow, if I am in short sleeve shirts and shorts it must still be autumn. Today out came the jeans, the thick long sleeve shirts and the jumpers. Yetthe birds seem to be preparing for the next breeding season. The Black-headed Oriole is very vocal resplendent in its breeding plumage and the Golden-breasted Buntings and Dark-capped Bulbuls have already paired off.
