We were 3 vehicles with 7 observers for
this club weekend at Blouberg. The
reserve is situated about 12km from Vivo on tarred roads up to the Reserve
gate. The small camping site has 2
standing tents on concrete bases and one screen-meshed walled "rondavel", and
are equipped with beds and mattresses.
There is a "donkey" for the hot water shower and even a flush toilet!

Birding around Rustenburg No 1
In the two plus years that I was in the Rustenburg area (from2004 to 2006), I was able to do some local birding. The closest places to town are the “Prison Dam” and “Sewerage Works”, both situated on the eastern side of town, off the Northam/ Thabazimbi road.

24 and 25 November 2009
After the recent good rainfall, being the
initial, but rather late, start to our rainy season Brian and I decided to
revisit Lekgakmeetse. This reserve is
an Important Bird Area (IBA) and part of the "Birds in Reserves" system, and
includes areas of the Drakensberg foothills, indigenous woodland and montane
grasslands.

Brain Jones will be giving us a talk on the 9th of March. We would like to invite everyone that is interested, to come along and join us in what has always been very insightful talks on the nature that surrounds us by Brian. There is however a cost implication for non members of R25-00 per adult and R10-00 per child. Brian will
be bringing some raptors and will also give us a talk on the Brown Hyeana and the
Leopards they are tracking with the collars fitted to them. Donations over and above the entrance fee would be welcomed for all attending, no matter how small as Brian is building a new cage for the Martial Eagle pair
that the centre has been able to save.
Please bring along your own chair and after the talk please join us at the bring and braai.
Thank you all and look forward to seeing you on the 9th at 6.30pm for 7.00pm.
